How to play African Quest – the rules of the game!
African Quest is an exciting new board game that takes players on a thrilling adventure through the African wilderness. The object of the game is to help Dr. Livingstone find his way back to civilization by navigating through the different terrains and obstacles of Africa. The game can be played by 2-4 players, and it's easy to learn how to play!
To start, each player chooses a animal avatar: lion, zebra, elephant, or gorilla. Then, the board is placed in the middle of the players, and each player takes their turn in clockwise order.
On your turn, you can either move your avatar around the board or take an action. To move your avatar, you roll one die and move that many spaces along the path. If you land on a space with an obstacle, you must take the action associated with that obstacle before you can continue moving. If you land on a space with another player's avatar, you must battle them using an action dice. The battle is resolved by rolling both dice and adding their values together. The player with the higher total wins the battle and takes one of the opponent's action dice.
If you choose to take an action instead of moving your avatar, there are three possible actions that you can take: search for Dr. Livingstone, cross a river, or build a bridge. To search for Dr. Livingstone, you roll one die and look at the corresponding number on the map. If you are on that space or any space adjacent to it, then you find Dr. Livingstone and win the game! To cross a river, you must have an action die that has a boat symbol on it – if you don't have one, then you can't cross the river. To build a bridge, you must have two action dice that have bridge symbols on them – if you don't have two dice with bridge symbols on them, then you can't build a bridge.
