England League Picks Up Steam in U.S. Casinos
In early February, the English Premier League (EPL) resumed after a monthlong break for FA Cup matches. The cup competitions, which are open to teams of all levels in English football, provided an opportunity for some of the league's lesser lights to upset the applecart and make a name for themselves.
The top-flight clubs have now recommenced their campaigns to either secure a coveted Champions League spot or, in the case of the recently relegated sides, attempt to bounce back at the first attempt. Here are three things we learned from Week 23 of the EPL:
1 - Liverpool aren't going away
Liverpool's unbeaten start to the season continued with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth on Saturday. The Reds have not been beaten in any competition since August and look like real contenders for their first league title in 29 years. With Mohamed Salah in scintillating form, they are well placed to maintain their challenge.
2 - Manchester United still have soft underbelly
Despite being second in the table, Manchester United still appear vulnerable in defence and were fortunate not to concede more than once in their 2-1 win over Burnley. Romelu Lukaku has been in good goalscoring form but Paul Pogba has yet to hit top gear and it is his lack of consistency that could cost United come the end of the season.
3 - Arsenal may be coming good at just the right time
Arsenal have looked out of sorts for much of this campaign, but they seem to be hitting form at just the right time. Saturday's 5-1 demolition of Everton was their fourth win in five games and suggests that they may yet mount a credible challenge for a Champions League spot.
Nevada Gaming Officials Approve England League Slot Machines
A unanimous vote by the Nevada Gaming Control Board has given the green light for English Premier League (EPL) slot machines to be placed in casinos across the state. This decision comes as a result of a partnership between casino game developer, Playtech, and the world's most popular football league.
The new machines will be based on real-life fixtures from the EPL, complete with team badges, official match balls, and stadiums. The games will also feature audio commentary and exclusive video content.
Speaking about the announcement, Nevada Gaming Control Board member A.G. Burnett said: "This is a truly unique and innovative product that will appeal to both seasoned and novice sports fans alike. I'm confident that it will be well-received by our gaming industry and provide players with another exciting way to enjoy their favorite sport."
Playtech CEO Mor Weizer added: "We are delighted to have reached an agreement with the Premier League which will see some of its top teams immortalized as slot machines. The combination of world-class football with our tried and tested casino technology is sure to excite players around the globe."
The new EPL slot machines are expected to launch in late 2018.
